How to Create a Fake TikTok DM Screenshot

Make a fictional TikTok DM screenshot with an editable collab conversation, message states, photo messages, and a clean PNG export.

TheFake TeamOctober 19, 2026

To make a fake TikTok DM screenshot, write both sides of a conversation, set the contact details, and export a PNG. Start with this four-message example: a creator asks for a rough cut and discovers that the video is still only an idea.

Fictional tiktok conversation: The unfinished collab.

The unfinished collab

Turn a normal draft request into a joke about doing no work.

Timing: Give the question a beat before the admission.

Edit this script

Fictional starter. Free PNG download; video export requires Pro.

  1. Maya: Can you send the rough cut?
  2. You: Very rough or slightly rough?
  3. Maya: How rough are we talking?
  4. You: It is still an idea.

How to create the TikTok DM screenshot

  1. Open the conversation. Choose Edit this script above to load the collab example. You can also open the TikTok DM generator.
  2. Set the contact details. Open Contact Info, replace the contact name, and click the avatar to upload a picture you own or have permission to use. Check that the name fits in the preview.
  3. Write both sides. In Messages, edit each line. Click the sender name beside a message to switch between the contact’s incoming messages and your outgoing messages. In this example, the contact asks for the rough cut and the outgoing side admits it has not been made.
  4. Set the times and message states. Click a timestamp to open Edit date & time. Keep the replies in chronological order. Use the message status control to choose an available delivery or read state, then check how it appears beside the outgoing message.
  5. Add a photo if the scene needs one. Choose Photo from the message-type controls and upload your image. Set who sends it, then check its crop. A frame from your own draft can support the collab scene; an unrelated picture usually adds clutter.
  6. Choose the canvas format. Use Screen only for the device display without a frame, or Vertical for a 9:16 composition. Recheck the final bubble and any photo after changing the format.
  7. Download the screenshot. Open Export and choose Download PNG screenshot. Open the file and check the contact name, message order, photo crop, and final reply at the size you plan to publish.

PNG downloads are free without an account. Video export requires Pro.

Keep the screenshot readable

Decide what the final reply should reveal before adding interface details. A collab request, an awkward follow-up, and a plot twist need different opening lines. Remove a bubble if it repeats information the reader already has.

Put essential information in the messages rather than relying on small details in a photo. If viewers need to zoom in, they may miss the point when the screenshot appears inside a video.

Timestamps describe when the fictional conversation happens. Playback delays control when messages appear in an animation. Follow the text-message video workflow if the reveal depends on timing.

Choose the right TikTok format

Use the TikTok comment reply tutorial when one public comment should introduce a response. Use the TikTok comments generator for a full comment sheet. The DM format is for a private-message scene.

Before placing the screenshot in a larger video, preview it with the final captions and overlays. Keep the important messages away from anything that covers them.

Before you share

Use fictional names or approved identities and make the skit or mockup context clear. The editor creates a visual scene; it does not connect to TikTok, send DMs, or change real conversations.
