TheFake Acceptable Use Policy

1. Purpose

This Acceptable Use Policy explains how you may and may not use TheFake. It applies to the website, editor, templates, exports, videos, screenshots, and any other output created with the service.

The short version: make scenes, jokes, demos, lessons, and production assets. Do not make fake proof, scams, harassment, or anything designed to hurt real people.

TheFake is a mockup tool

Think of it like a design tool for fictional chat and social UI scenes. The output can look realistic, so context matters. Label, frame, or publish your work in a way that does not mislead people when confusion could cause harm.

2. Acceptable uses

The following uses are allowed and encouraged:

Creator content

YouTube videos, TikToks, Reels, podcasts, skits, memes, and social storytelling.

Film and video production

Movies, documentaries, music videos, ads, and production scenes that need chat visuals.

Marketing and demos

Product walkthroughs, concept mockups, app previews, and fictional customer examples.

Education and training

Tutorials, safety lessons, classroom examples, awareness programs, and training decks.

Satire and parody

Comedy, commentary, and fictional scenes where the joke or context makes the setup clear.

Design exploration

UI references, wireframes, prototype scenes, and interface examples for product work.

3. Prohibited uses

The following uses are not allowed and may result in account termination, removal of access, refusal of refunds, and reports to appropriate authorities:

Fraud and false proof

Fake conversations used for payments, insurance, legal claims, chargebacks, or evidence.

Harassment and bullying

Content made to threaten, shame, stalk, intimidate, or target a person or group.

Defamation

False conversations that damage someone's reputation or attribute invented statements.

Harmful impersonation

Misleading people by pretending a real person said or did something they did not.

Misinformation

Hoaxes, fake news, manipulated public-interest content, or election-related deception.

Blackmail and extortion

Using generated content to threaten, coerce, pressure, or exploit another person.

Romance scams and catfishing

Fake chat scenes used to deceive people in dating, friendship, or relationship contexts.

Illegal activity

Any use that violates applicable laws, regulations, platform rules, or third-party rights.

4. Real people and public figures

Do not use TheFake to put damaging, false, or misleading words in someone's mouth. Satire, parody, dramatization, and reenactment can be legitimate, but the context should make the fictional nature clear where people could reasonably mistake it for real.

5. Sensitive contexts

Be extra careful with content involving minors, medical claims, legal disputes, elections, emergencies, financial transactions, hiring, housing, immigration, law enforcement, or other high-stakes situations. Do not use TheFake to fabricate evidence or manipulate decisions in those contexts.

6. Enforcement

Misuse is not a gray area we want to monetize

If we find or receive credible reports of prohibited use, we may investigate, restrict access, terminate accounts, preserve relevant records, refuse refunds, and cooperate with lawful requests from authorities.

7. Reporting misuse

If you become aware of misuse of TheFake, email abuse@thefake.design. Include links, screenshots, account details, or context that can help us investigate.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as new misuse patterns, product features, or legal requirements emerge. The date at the top of the page shows the latest update.

9. Common legal questions

Is it illegal to make a fake text message?

Creating a fake text message screenshot or video for entertainment, filmmaking, marketing mockups, or education is generally legal. TheFake is built for those creative uses. It becomes illegal when fake messages are used to deceive someone, commit fraud, harass or defame a person, or present fabricated chats as real evidence. TheFake's acceptable use policy prohibits those harmful uses.
