How to Make Discord Chat Screenshots for Gaming Skits

Build a fictional Discord gaming exchange with a complete editable script, clear speakers, optional reactions, and a free PNG export.

Make a Discord chat screenshot for a gaming skit by writing a short exchange, assigning its speakers, and exporting a PNG. In this example, a friend celebrates beating a boss before revealing that it was the tutorial. Four messages set up the achievement and deliver the correction.

Fictional discord conversation: The tutorial boss.

The tutorial boss

Let a proud player mistake the tutorial for a boss fight.

Timing: Put the longest pause before the final answer.

Edit this script

Fictional starter. Free PNG download; video export requires Pro.

  1. Maya: Finally beat the boss.
  2. You: Nice. Which one?
  3. Maya: The one teaching me to dodge.
  4. You: Maya. That is the tutorial.

How to make the Discord screenshot

  1. Load the gaming example. Choose Edit this script above to open the conversation in a dark Discord layout. You can also use the Discord chat generator.
  2. Set the contact details. Open Contact Info and change the name and avatar of the incoming speaker. Keep the outgoing messages assigned to the person whose screen the viewer is seeing.
  3. Edit the conversation. In Messages, replace each line. Click the sender name beside a message to change its speaker. In the starter, the incoming friend celebrates and describes the fight; the outgoing side asks which boss and delivers the tutorial reveal.
  4. Add a reaction if it helps. Open a message’s reaction control and choose a supported emoji. Place it on the line being answered, then check its position in the preview. One laugh can replace an entire follow-up message.
  5. Check timestamps, appearance, and framing. Click a timestamp to open Edit date & time and keep the exchange in chronological order. Choose the chat’s light or dark appearance. Use Screen only for a display crop, Vertical for a 9:16 composition, or Wide for a landscape video or slide.
  6. Download and review the PNG. Open Export and choose Download PNG screenshot. Open the file and check the names, final reply, reaction, and line wrapping. If you will place it over gameplay, test it against that footage before publishing.

PNG downloads are free without an account. Animated video export requires Pro.

Make a squad conversation

  1. Select Group in the contact settings.
  2. Open Group Info and name the thread.
  3. Add the incoming participants, using fictional names or identities approved for your project.
  4. Assign each incoming message to the right participant through its sender control.
  5. Read the conversation again and remove replies that repeat the same point.

Give each person a different contribution: one reports the achievement, another guesses a difficult encounter, and a third identifies the tutorial. You do not need a real server, bot token, or multiple Discord accounts. Your edits change the mockup, not a real Discord conversation.

Adapt the joke to your game

Try changing the detail instead of adding a long explanation. “The one teaching me to crouch” can work for another setting. If readers need a paragraph of game lore to understand the correction, the reference may be too complicated for a small screenshot.

The structure is “achievement, question, detail, correction.” Replace the achievement and correction together so the last line still follows from the setup. Browse the 12-script collection for other structures, or use the writing guide to revise the ending.

For animation, give the last line enough reading time without adding a long pause to every reply. Follow the text-message video guide for the export workflow.

Before you share

Use fictional characters or approved identities and make the skit context clear, especially beside gameplay or recognizable usernames. The editor does not connect to Discord, send messages, or edit real chat logs.

Give the squad a scene worth reading

Start with the tutorial boss, change the game detail, and export the result.
