How to Create a Reddit Comment Thread Mockup

Create a readable fictional Reddit discussion with usernames, votes, and nested replies. Adapt two examples and check thread structure before exporting.

To create a Reddit comment thread mockup, start with a short discussion, assign distinct usernames, and add each answer as a reply to the right comment. Set the vote counts, then check the nesting before exporting. The Reddit comments generator gives you an editable comment view for an authored screenshot.

The discussion is fictional content you write. The tool does not fetch Reddit threads, cast votes, or publish replies.

Start with one practical question

A workspace advice thread

One reply suggests a simple desk change, the original poster asks a follow-up, and another person offers an alternative. Portrait avatars help distinguish the voices.

Edit this example

This workspace discussion starts with a useful suggestion about moving a lamp off the desk. A nested reply asks how to do it; other top-level comments offer different improvements. The structure lets the reader separate a follow-up question from a new suggestion.

Build a readable thread

  1. Select Edit this example above to load the complete Reddit discussion in the editor.
  2. Edit the existing usernames and comment text in the comments editor. Choose short, distinct usernames so you can follow the participants without relying on their portraits.
  3. Keep each top-level comment to one idea. Replace the workspace advice with a concrete topic for your story or tutorial, such as packing for a trip or planning a team lunch.
  4. Select Edit on a comment, then Reply to put an answer beneath that specific contribution. Type in Comment text... and use Add Comment for a new top-level contribution. The current editor supports replies attached to comments; plan around that structure rather than promising an unlimited branching conversation.
  5. Edit the vote values for comments and replies. Review them in the preview alongside the timestamps. They are authored numbers in the screenshot and do not represent votes collected from Reddit.
  6. Check that the first comment still makes sense when the source post is not visible. Add a few words of context if a reader would otherwise need to guess the subject.

A comment thread and its source post do different jobs. If the post’s title, author, or main text is part of the story, create a separate Reddit post mockup. Keep the topic consistent across the post and discussion screenshots.

Adapt the dinner-planning example

A dinner planning discussion

The thread compares two ways to host a small dinner. Short answers and a nested follow-up keep the discussion readable without needing a long post above it.

Edit this example

The dinner thread uses a question about preparation to make the exchange useful. One reply clarifies the main suggestion; the other comments contribute different ways to reduce work. To adapt it, choose one constraint—time, space, or budget—and let each participant address a different part of it.

Before you export

  • Read the thread in order without the source post. Is the subject clear?
  • Confirm each nested reply answers its parent comment.
  • Check username consistency, vote values, and timestamps.
  • Make sure long lines and the final reply fit in the preview.
  • Open Export, then choose Download PNG screenshot for a still image. Open the downloaded file and check it at the size you will actually use; scale it without changing its aspect ratio.
  • Mark the finished scene as a fictional mockup when sharing it outside its original context.

Common mistakes

Using the comments view as a source post. A long opening paragraph with a title belongs in a post mockup. Let the discussion focus on responses.

Flattening every reply. A follow-up question is easier to understand beneath the comment it addresses. Avoid starting a new top-level comment just to continue the same exchange.

Adding too much thread depth to one image. This editor attaches replies to comments. If your story needs several stages, use multiple clear screenshots rather than squeezing everything into one.

Treating high vote counts as the punchline. The conversation should work before anyone reads the numbers. Use engagement details to support the scene.

Open the Reddit comments generator to adapt either discussion and export your own thread mockup.
